Of course I know of Los Relámpagos (nothing to do with The Lightning ..... Seeds?). I used to like Santana, but now that his style is so widespread and corrupt I tend to switch the channel every time I listen to the first notes of a Latin beat. I just can't help it.
And, yes, I learnt of the Canadian band Mute as I checked its page on last.fm and seemed to give me strange track connections, but I haven't listened to any of its music.
Next post? Maybe next weekend... But I'm already thinking about a special entry on Spanish 60's and 70's. I was wondering whether you would be interested in collaboration. I'll tell you what I eventually come up with... Cheers!vanvic68https://www.blogger.com/profile/11133657004355403506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-471849347855370911.post-26950213484154242042011-09-21T17:31:10.492+02:002011-09-21T17:31:10.492+02:00BTW: I like your band Mute on here, but did you k...BTW: I like your band Mute on here, but did you know, or do they know there is a Canadian Punk band with the same name?

http://www.myspace.com/mutepunkrock

Must be hard trying to come up with band names these days.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10012917035560883031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-471849347855370911.post-15430671530324058832011-09-21T17:27:32.327+02:002011-09-21T17:27:32.327+02:00Sorry, some of them got translated in my memory to...Sorry, some of them got translated in my memory to English. The Lightning were actually Los Relámpagos, and the Grimm were Los Grimm. Los Grimm were two brothers Jesus and Angel Fernandez, fans of The Shadows , in 1964 decided to start a band that ended up calling Los Gringos , together with Eduardo Sainz, younger brother of two of Los Pekenikes. They were kind of like The Shadows, at least in the early days.
I know we really enjoyed many of the groups when we saw them live, but it could also be that we were on vacation and the wine was flowing freely. But I don't think they were considered second class, we had many starnge groups in the UK too.
Like Dickie Pride, Tommy Steele, Wee Willie Harris (and there backing groups). The Spanish bands were at a dissavantage when they sang in Spanish, because at the time the other European countries tended to want to hear their music in their native language or in English (American). Nowadays Spanish (or Latin as they tend to call it in the USA) is more acceptable.
And I have to believe that Sanatana had a lot to do with that with the amount of latin rhythm he injected into rock in the late 60's and onward. Keep doing what you are doing, looking forward to your next post.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10012917035560883031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-471849347855370911.post-61793708124294147942011-09-20T19:23:42.693+02:002011-09-20T19:23:42.693+02:00Hey man, you're really into it! On the other hand Los Diablos, Los Brincos, Formula V, Los Canarios, Los Pekenikes and Los Bravos are legendary names. Of course Black is Black was a hit worldwide but hardly anyone know it's by a Spanish band. Do you think these groups match the standard of rock at that time? Because here many of them are regarded as too naive and local. A short list from some that I recall - Los Bravos (Black is Black a great hit world wide I think), Los Brincos, Bruno Lomas y Los Rockeros, Los Canarios, Los Cheyennes, Fórmula V, Lone Star, Micky y Los Tonys, Los Mustang, Los Pekenikes, Charol, Pop Tops, Los Salvajes, Los Sírex, The Wild , Z-66 , Tony Ronald Group, The Lightning , Modules , Pic-Nic , The Grimm, Los Diablos and the many many unknown or unnamed groups that appeared in all the little clubs and on the beaches throughout the varios Costa's. I loved the music they used to play at "The White House" in Estartit in the North.

Almshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16654829641814413894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-471849347855370911.post-61237036359081538472011-09-17T22:00:17.423+02:002011-09-17T22:00:17.423+02:00@saiew: You're welcome. We are all neighbours in the blogosphere even if geographically we are far apart. Love that there is so much musically going on in Spain nowadays. There was always a plethora of new bands to find whenever I vacationed in Spain back in the 60's and 70's. It's good to know the tradition endures.
