(ENGLISH AHEAD) Me llama muy poco hablar de amor. No por nada, es que no sé si hay algo nuevo que decir al respecto. Sin todo lo que el amor y el desamor han inspirado a miles de personas a lo largo de los tiempos no se podría entender eso que hoy llamamos arte. Ambas son fuerzas casi inevitables que condicionan nuestras vidas de tal forma que tienen, por lo tanto, reflejo en toda manifestación artística, entre ellas, cómo no, la música. Y aquí ha habido de todo, desde obras maestras hasta pastelazos empalagosos que no hay manera de tragar si no es con litros de desatascador industrial.

No obstante, me gustan aquellas canciones que tratan el tema de manera doméstica, que no generalizan, que hablan de grandezas y miserias personales y que no tienen por qué conectar con las vivencias del común de los mortales. Canciones sencillas que, sin embargo, sí pueden contener un mensaje que para ti sea lo suficientemente significativo.

De nuevo volvemos a Suecia, el primer exportador mundial de una cosa que se llama música, para presentar a una banda bien conocida por aquellos lares pero falta de reconocimiento fuera de los mismos. Empezaron con un repertorio en el que la voz del frontman,  Magnus Carlson, se transformaba en el aglutinante de los sentimientos de tristeza, melancolía y nostalgia que sobrevolaban cada uno de los temas. Esa languidez estremecedora a la que Roy Orbison o Chris Isaak nos tenían acostumbrados. De esta primera época (1997) es esta pieza que debería sonar a todas horas en el Museo de la Canción y que se llama Blue and Alone:

Tras varios años en los que la banda exploró sonidos más comerciales y a la vez más indies, 2007 nos dejó el que hasta hoy es su último álbum, Fear and Love, donde retoman el aire folk e intimista de sus primeras composiciones. Entre ellas destaco The Burden y, sobre todo, If You Know What Love Is. Tras la aparente historia de desencuentro que nos cuentan yace un, para mí, misterioso mensaje. Uno de los amantes no comprende cómo su pareja se queja de que es rechazada cuando su vida está sembrada de pistas y claves para llegar a él con facilidad. Por lo visto, el otro tiene serias dificultades para seguir esas pistas, sin embargo, la ecuación parece tener fácil solución: "si sabes lo que es el amor, lo entenderás". Pero, ¿es que alguien lo sabe?

I don't usually like speaking about love. It's just I am not sure there is anything new to say about it. Without the inspiration that love and heartbreak have instilled on thousands of people since the beginning of times we could not understand what today we call art. Both are almost inevitable forces that affect our lives to such an extent that they are therefore reflected in all kinds of artistic expressions, including, of course, music. And here we have evrything from masterpieces to hard-to-swallow pieces of gooey, cheesy cakes. 

However, I like those songs that deal with domestic affairs, not generalized love affairs, which speak of particular greatness and miseries and do not necessarily connect with the experiences of ordinary mortals. Simple songs which sometimes contain a message that is meaningful enough for you. 

Again, were back to Sweden, the world's leading exporter of a thing called music, to present a well-known band in Scandinavia which lacks recognition outside the region. They started with a repertoire in which the voice of frontman Magnus Carlson becomes the binder of the feelings of sadness, melancholy and nostalgia that fly over each of the tracks. That chilling languor to which Roy Orbison or Chris Isaak had accustomed us. Their first album (1997) contains the track that should be heard at all hours at the Museum of the Song, called Blue and Alone.

After several years in which the band explored a more commercial as well as indier sound, 2007 left us what is theri last album to date, Fear and Love, where they retake the intimate, folk air of their first compositions. Especially remarkable are The Burden and, above all, If You Know What Love Is. To me, beneath the apparent disappointment story there lies a mysterious message. One of the lovers does not understand why the other feels rejected when in fact his life is littered with hints and clues over how to reach the former easily. Apparently, lover two has serious difficulties to follow these tracks, however, the equation has a simple solution: "if you know what love is, then you'll understand." But really, does anyone know?
