I have no choice but to talk about The Wave Pictures. Why? Because I've been listening their album Instant Coffe Baby all day long for the last two months; and because they'll be playing in my hometown in less than a month. Why do you get hooked to an album this way? In my opinion, there are two possible reasons: either it is outstandingly different to the rest, or it is remarkably similar to others. I usually get tired with the latter, but I must reckon that this album is not originality at its best. From the kind of band they are, the scarce musicians and instruments involved, one might think that they should play quite limited music, but the truth is that they produce really playful, transparent, good songs.

Though the single Love You Like A Madman could match more generalised likes, I wanted to take a chance on Leave The Scene Behind, which reminds me a lot of Promise, by the Violent Femmes, an all-time favourite. The thing is that this is a complete new song. They share the same electricity on the guitar and the bass, and also on the lead singer's tone, so similar to Gordon Gano's. Nevertheless, this song and many others in the album kind of make you feel like dancing, whereas we can't say the same of quite a few by the Violent Femmes.
Now you'll understand why I think we should explore this band's discography and follow it. If you liked it, I recommend you get a copy of Play Some Pool, an tribute album entirely made up with covers of Bruce Springsteen's songs. Here's a sample:
