(ESPAÑOL TRAS EL SALTO) I am not so sure that I agree with today's lyrics. At least, not fully. It sounds like this Irish band is addressing a grown-up that has had to stop taking chances because everything has gone too far and he is not a rebel young spirit any longer. Am I wrong interpreting? Well I, myself, am no challenger, but as an adult I simply feel more eager to explore than I used to as a teenager, always too shy and scared of the world around. In a way, I believe it is somewhat unnatural for a person to stop being curious at a certain age, though the general impression is way the opposite. As one grows older, the number of stimuli you have been in contact with must necessarily grow bigger and thus the range of different ways to face oncoming events and to make decisions about life gets also wider. Why, as chances multiply, should a person stick to a single way of life, instead of giving other options a try? Probably, and here's where I meet Ash's words, because we "will have to pay the price", and that is what petrifies us. I might be on my way to take new chances, and 2011 might offer me new perspectives, so if this eventually happens I hope this dream does not "break my heart".

Quite a challenge too what Ash decided to do with their latest issue. Instead of recording a set of songs for a new album and then choosing a few as singles to be published periodically, they tried issuing one single a fortnight, one per letter in the alphabet, to make a final compilation with all of them. The task was fulfilled and the result is simply astonishing. The truth is that there really are 26 singles in it. There is not a single track that deserves less attention than another. They've made it, and they're not that young anymore. They dared and won.So, let's be daring ourselves.

No sé muy bien si estoy de acuerdo con la letra de la canción de hoy. Por lo menos, no completamente. Parece que la banda irlandesa se esté dirigiendo a un adulto que tiene que dejar de ser tan osado porque ya no es el joven de espíritu rebelde que era y es hora de hacer balance y ver que tanta osadía no le ha servido de nada. Eso, si la interpreto bien. Yo, que no soy ni he sido especialmente osado ni aventurero, sí que siento que cuando uno se hace mayor no necesariamente pierde ese espíritu rebelde y arriesgado. A decir verdad, yo me siento más rebelde ahora que cuando era adolescente, siempre temeroso de las opiniones de los demás y asustado del mundo de los adultos que se me venía encima. De alguna manera pienso que es un poco antinatural que una persona deje de sentir curiosidad por la cosas llegada a cierta edad, aunque la opinión generalizada sea completamente la contraria; es decir, aquello de "hay que sentar la cabeza". Según vas creciendo, el número de estímulos a los que te vas enfrentando es sustancialmente mayor cada día, por lo que la variedad de respuestas a los acontecimientos venideros y de decisiones ante la vida tiene necesariamente que ser más grande. Entonces, ¿por qué a mayores oportunidades, uno tendría que quedarse con una para siempre, en lugar de probar las cosas nuevas que la vida te ofrece? Probablemente, y aquí es donde sí estoy de acuerdo con la canción, porque habría que "pagar un precio". Y eso es lo que nos petrifica. Ante la posibilidad de que el 2011 pueda ofrecerme nuevos retos, sólo espero que, al contrario de lo que dice la canción, esa decisión no me "rompa el corazón".

También fue un reto lo que Ash se propusieron para su última entrega. En lugar de editar un álbum con canciones y elegir luego los singles, decidieron editar un single por quincena, uno por cada letra del abecedario, para publicar luego una recopilación de los mismos. La tarea llegó a su fin y el resultado es tremendamente sorprendente. La cuestión es que, al final HAY verdaderamente 26 singles. Ninguna canción se merece menos atención que otra. Han conseguido el reto, y eso que ya no son esos jóvenes rebeldes... Fueron osados y han ganado. Pues venga, ¡viva la osadía!
