¿Saben ustedes qué tienen en común México, Argentina, Sudáfrica, Nepal y Portugal? No es uno de los grupos clasificatorios del próximo mundial de fútbol (aunque me agradaría ver jugar a una selección nepalí). Tampoco es el itinerario de la próxima gira veraniega de David Bustamante (bueno, algunos sí) aunque si podría ser el de la de Benedicto XVI. Si esto último fuera cierto, no me extrañaría que los servicios vaticanos alertaran al Sumo Pontífice de que en estos estados se acaban de aprobar unas leyes que ellos interpretan como un torpedo en la línea de flotación de la sacrosanta institución católica. Las citadas leyes (algunas de carácter nacional y otras sólo regional o local) permiten el matrimonio entre personas del mismo sexo.

Do you know what Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, Nepal and Portugal have in common? They're not one of the next soccer World Cup qualifying groups (though I'd love to watch a Nepalese soccer team for once). Neither are they the upcoming venues in the next Susan Boyle's tour (well, some of them may be), but could easily be Benedict XVI's. Were it the case, the Vatican services would certainly warn the Pope of the fact that these nations have recently passed laws that under no circumstances will the Holy Church admit. The laws I'm talking about allow same-sex marriage.

Algunas amistades que no acostumbran a nutrirse de noticias referidas al mundo de las personas homosexuales, lesbianas, bisexuales y transexuales porque, naturalmente, no sienten necesidad ni curiosidad debido a sus circunstancias personales, son totalmente ajenas y, hasta se extrañan, cuando se enteran del creciente número de países y estados en el mundo que están siguiendo esta tendencia. Seas quien seas, no está de más ponerse al día, por ejemplo aquí.

Some of my closest friends, who are naturally not aware of the news about the gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender world, just because their personal circumstances do not lead them to them, get even surprised when they learn about the increasing number of countries following this tendency. Whoever you are, it's not out of the question to get a little bit informed, say for example here. 

No voy a entrar a argumentar sobre derechos humanos o sobre religión. Mi única ambición hoy es alertar a mis lectores del fluir natural de los acontecimientos planetarios, sobre los que es necesario estar informado para tener una opinión fundamentada. Por eso el tema (o más bien el vídeo) de M83 me viene como anillo al dedo. Las chicas que patinan felices juntas, que parecen tener algo más que una amistad, que se lanzan carretera abajo con deleite y trazan figuras preciosamente coreografiadas me evocan ese devenir imparable de las cosas que pasa desapercibido para gran parte de la población que sale a la calle a protestar cuando el arroyo ya se ha desbordado ante sus narices.

I'm not trying to discuss about human rights or religion here.  My only wish today is to warn my readers about the natural flow of events going on in our world. M83's track and video really fit in. The happy-looking girls skating around like mad, the sharing glances that imply something more than a friendly relationship, the frantic downhill run and the beautiful choreography in the skating rink evoke the unstoppable development of civilization  in such a way that all opposition to it is starting to march against it the moment when the river has already overflown. 

La canción y el vídeo de color de rosa tienen un final ambiguo e indefinido, como la vida misma. ¿Kim y Jessie se casarán? ¿No son lesbianas? ¿Se montan una orgía con los maromos del final? Y a mí qué más me da. Sólo espero que al final de esa carretera por la que se lanzan no se topen nunca más con el muro de la ignorancia. Porque... ¿saben usteden qué tienen en común Uganda, Lituania, Malawi, Irán o China? Sean curiosos.

The song and the video are a little bit too cheerful, but they share an ambiguous and uncertain end, just like life. Will Kim and Jessie marry each other? Are they  or aren't they lesbians? Will they organize a foursome together with the two guys in the end? As for me, I don't give a damn. I just wish that at the end of the slope where the girls are skating down there is no wall of ignorance that stops them dramatically. By the way, do you know what Uganda, Lithuania, Malawi, Iran or China have in common? Be curious, my friends.
