(ESPAÑOL ADELANTE) From time to time I receive messages inviting me to listen to bands around the world in case they met my likes and I eventually wrote a review. As I said in my last post, I've no intention to become a critic or to give the impression that I know so much that all I like is simply unmissable. What I'm sure of is that each music has its moment, and today I can't wait to present this band coming from Nürnberg, Germany (thanks Stefan for stepping into my facebook)

First of all, I must say it shocked me so much to learn of their origin, because at first listening it sounded so American to me. Lately I've been listening to Grand Archives, Great Lake Swimmers, The Strugglers and The Low Anthem and it just seemed to mee that The Green Apple Sea were to follow in the list. They are, but only after crossing the Atlantic into Europe. That's what I call globalised music. Nowadays the best country music could be based miles away from where it was born, as well as Germany is not any longer the only place to enjoy techno music.

Music is a state of mind. That's why, following my long spell of anxiety, stress and sorrow -and a good dose of tranquilizers-, I finally seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel and a new world of relaxation and good vibes ahead. A bright place where The Green Apple Sea are playing an important role. The new album is enjoyable from beginning to end. These guys show confidence in what they're doing, knowing they're attempting no original category of music, but that doesn't mean they've got no personal style. No matter how much my mind recalls Ryan Adams's Sweet Illusions when listening to Whale Watching, no matter the impression of dejà vu, I just love those tunes -special mention to Rock'n'Roll Band and Satellite Wings.

Nevertheless, I want to highlight this nice little tune called Sleep! Now!. A song that starts in an Nilsson-esque classical arpeggio sound and then the subtle piano notes -like a faster version of those in Van Morrison's Scandinavia- give way to an emotional bass line along which the lead singer walks his way into a delicate path towards the land of dream. Just the song I need. Thank you for bringing peace and calmness to our restless world.

De vez en cuando recibo mensajes en mis distintos perfiles por Internet invitándome a escuchar a tal o cual grupo por si es de mi gusto y acabo dedicándole una reseña. Como ya comentaba en mi anterior entrada, no tengo ninguna intención de convertirme en crítico musical ni que la gente se piense que sé tanto como para imponer mi opinión como imprescindible. Lo que sí tengo claro es que cada música tiene su momento y éste es el de esta banda de Nuremberg, Alemania (gracias, Stefan, por colarte en mi facebook)

Lo primero es comentar la sorpresa del origen de la banda. Estaba convencido de que sonaban y eran norteamericanos. Pues era sólo lo primero. Llevo un tiempo escuchando a Grand Archives, The Low Anthem, Great Lake Swimmers o The Strugglers y pensaba que The Green Apple Sea se unirían a esta lista. Y lo hacen, pero no sin antes cruzar el Atlántico camino de Europa. A esto lo llamo yo globalización musical. Y es que ahora la mejor música country se puede encontrar a kilómetros de donde nació, de la misma manera que ya no es necesario ir a Alemania a escuchar el mejor techno.

La música es un estado de ánimo. Por eso, después de un largo periodo de estrés, ansiedad y pena -y una buena dosis de tranquilizantes-, parece que empieza a asomar la luz al final del túnel y un nuevo mundo de relax y buenas vibraciones se atisba en el horizonte. Y aquí The Green Apple Sea juegan un importante papel de acompañamiento. Su nuevo álbum se disfruta de principio a fin. Esta gente muestran confianza en lo que hacen, sabedores de que no están intentando ser originales, lo cual no significa que no tengan un estilo personal y propio. No importa si Whale Watching me evoca al Sweet Illusions de Ryan Adams o si tengo una ligera impresión de dejà vu, simplemente me encantan estas melodías -especial mención a Rock'n'Roll Band y Satellite Wings.

Sin embargo, hoy quiero resaltar esta pequeña canción llamada Sleep! Now! Una melodía que empieza con los ya clásicos arpegios Nilssonianos para seguir con unas suaves notas de piano -como en una versión más rápida del Scandinavia de Van Morrison- que dan paso a una emocionante línea de bajo sobre la que la voz del cantante se abre camino delicadamente hacia el territorio del sueño. Justo lo que necesito. Gracias por traernos paz y quietud a nuestro mundo sin aliento.
