"Music is synonym of freedom, of playing what you want and how you want, as long as it's good and made with passion. Let music be love's food."

Una de zombis (Boedekka - Carnival Of The Antichrist)

VII
"You know it's wrong but you won't think twice"

CARNIVAL OF THE ANTICHRIST
Boedekka
The Piper, The Devil, The Poet and The Priest
Mushroom Pillow
2004

On such special dates, I'm highly honoured to inform you of the birth of... the Antichrist! Yes, I really feel like turning irreverent and going on an opposite direction to the rest of the world. You might have expected a nice Christmas song today, but instead I'm attacking with quite a different approach.

The truth is that it isn't very easy to get a Boedekka album (only two to date), nor is it to find references about them on the net (there's no official website or Wikipedia entry) Who'll like this album? Someone not very conventional, I guess. Though I often listen to it from beginning to end, I know it could be hard listening for some people. There's funny shrill racuous sounds on some tracks, and the band aims at a pure psychedelic sound, but the album also contains some beautiful tunes and catchy choruses. It shares the conceptual approach of progressive rock albums of the 70s, but its rhythms make it more modern, so we don't have the impression of listening to an old record.

The opening track is maybe the poppest (is there such a word?) song in the album. It might not be the best, but it is certainly a good track for a single. Furthermore, the video (Boedekka's one and only to date) is bizarre and funny enough to deserve a comment. The Antichrist story can't be seen throughout the clip, but instead we get the typical zombie tale where a scared-to-death teenage girl is chased by hungry undead in a sort of B-movie Thriller-looking story.

So, enjoy your family gathering and don't get choked on today's supper, because psychedelia isn't dead and the Antichrist has come to stay for good...

  1. Victor!

  3. Thank you Victor,
this is Carl from Boedekka. Sadly, we split up quite a few years ago.
I mixed both albums in my bedroom in London with an early version of logic, on pc. We wanted it Psychedelic as possible and spent a very long time listening to every part of the recordings.
A video was made for HighFlyer but I don't know where it is and we did record a concert for TVE2 that we didn't see...(It was probably really poor!)Our show at Festival Cultura Quente 2004 was also filmed.
Fin (Findlay Brown) has just released his second album and moved to New York. James (Barbarossa) has released a few great albums, Paul Freeman, who left between the 2 albums became a session guitarist and moved to Los Angeles to signed with Sony. Robert Jesse plays with Moon Music Orchestra. I live in Los Angeles, playing drums with Paul.
I recently made a boedekka Myspace page. I have quite a few unreleased tracks and will try to put them up over the next few weeks...
It's good to know that we still have some fans.
    Cheers
    Carl Alty

  4. Wow Carl, this is most unexpected! Thanks for popping in and leave a note, which I appreciate so much. It's sad that you guys split up. I somewhat wondered why we weren't getting more new about the band and I regret to hear such sad news. I hope you continue playing elsewhere. In the meantime many people will go on listening to the music you made with Boedekka, cause it's really worthwhile. My stats show that quite a lot of people read the post and now you'll have more fans worlwide. As I said, thanks for commenting and I wish you all the best. Cheers.
