"When the party’s through
Seems so very sad for you
Didn’t do the things you meant to
Now there’s no time to start anew
When the party’s through."
DAY IS DONE

For better or worse, everything has an end. Nick Drake's end, as well as Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smiths's came too soon. The three of them form my own personal magic trio of stars that died at a young age with still a lot of art in store. I don't understand music without them. Nick's luminous words transmit nothing but peace, though most of his compositions could be considered sad and depressing. The light in the lyrics comes from an intimate reflection, full of poetry and a certain mystical aura, and a dialogue between himself and the nature of people and things around. Every song becomes then a personal, moving, unique experience. Nick causes some confusion, but it is from this confusion that beauty comes up. Because there are no answers in Nick's world, there is only life. Because it appeals to the most human emotions and to the reconciliation with the imperfection in the world.
When the day is done, there comes the time to check the results, and nothing is the way it seemed. Doubt comes to your path and you start to wonder if everything was worth it, if you have learnt anything. Well, some of us do. Others seem to be so sure about everything that there's no room for doubt in their minds. Their chips have been programmed not not bear any doubt, not to think. They act like robots and speak the same words on and on while showing such an irritating attitude of forced pity that they might as well keep it for themselves. And what is left after all the demonstration of power, the loudspeaker messages and the juvenile chants? Sheer chaos all around. It's a question of image, image and image, simply to cause division. That's why we can, at least, rejoice because the day is done.
