7 Songs in 7 Days Project - Day 1

(ESPAÑOL ADELANTE) The English band Retraplayer, whom we had the honour to interview recenty, have made it their goal to produce one song per day during a whole week. A challenging project if you consider that each song has to be written within the day, for it is based on a piece of news in the day's papers, hence it can't be previously arranged. The idea matches so well with the philosophy of this blog, where music is chosen to feature as an illustration of a certain current event or personal mood, that I have decided to echo the project. It is also my intention to help the band promoting their music as I surrendered to it right from the moment they issued their first single The Observatory.
The first song in the project is based on an article about Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, appeared in The Independent. The band itself makes an introduction of the song and adds some comments at the end of the video. Day one has set very high standards.
As for the topic, I consider Assange's figure an icon of the battle for independence that true journalism is fighting against governments and corporations, but it is taking me some time to decide on which stance to take regarding the methods of WikiLeaks. Could it be that the way the leaks are made causes unnecessary pain to innocents?

La banda inglesa Retraplayer, a quien tuvimos el honor de entrevistar hace unas fechas, se ha propuesto un reto bien interesante: producir una canción al día durante una semana basándose en una noticia aparecida en los periódicos del día. Un reto bastante complicado si se tiene en cuenta que no se puede preparar la canción antes de que aparezca la noticia que la motive. La idea se asemeja mucho a la filosofía de este blog, en el que la música intenta ilustrar una idea sugerida por acontecimientos presentes o por estados de ánimo personales. Por eso he decidido hacerme eco de este proyecto que, a buen seguro, también servirá para promocionar su música, a la cual me rendí desde su primer single, The Observatory.
La primera entrega está inspirada en la siguiente noticia sobre Julian Assange, el fundador de WikiLeaks, aparecida en el periódico británico The Independent. Ellos mismos introducen el tema y hacen un pequeño comentario al final de este vídeo. El reto comienza con el listón bien alto.
Por lo que se refiere al tema, considero a Assange un icono de la batalla que el verdadero periodismo está jugando contra los gobiernos y las grandes corporaciones, pero me está costando aceptar como válidos todos los métodos que WikiLeaks utiliza para sus fines. ¿Es posible que alguno de estos métodos acabe por causar un daño innecesario a personas inocentes?
