(ESPAÑOL ADELANTE) Let me put it straight. Since the day I was born, our leaders have been naming different people and countries a threat to our system. Brezhnev, Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein or Kim Jong-Il have all proved to have been a real threat to nobody but their own countries, which they have lead to either disintegration, blockade or invasion. Although religious extremists tried indeed to hit the base of our economic system attacking WTC on 9/11, Madrid on 4/11 or London on 7/7 and they certainly managed to shake it all up, the truth is that capitalism and western democracies have survived the test.

Tony Blair has stated that the enemy now is Iran. The Iranian regime is not at all to my liking, but neither is Tony Blair. Mr Bliar, together with George Bush and José María Aznar performed the most shameless criminal performance when they agreed to invade Irak without the approval of the U.N. under the excuse of the Mother of the Lies: the mass destruction weapons. Do you expect anyone to believe you on the Iran stuff? No, Mr Bliar, you've got no credibility. I feel a lot more threatened by the I.M.F., the E.C.B. and the Credit Rating Agencies and I see no leader demanding to stop these carriers of real weapons of mass destruction from attacking us. The devil is not far from our boundaries, the devil dwells within our walls.

My congratulations to Retraplayer on achieving the challenge of producing one song per day for one week. I am not as exhausted as the band might be, but I have to tell you that it has also been a challenge for me. Getting home from work and having just a few hours in the evening to listen to the song, read the articles, sometimes make out the lyrics and write a post in two languages that could match the spirit of it all has been really stressful. But I am so happy to have collaborated that I must say that every single minute has been worth it. So, many thanks for your wonderful music. Now it's time to think of new challenges, but in the meantime, don't you think we all deserve some rest?

 

Dejadme que vaya al grano. Desde que nací, nuestros líderes no han estado asustando con los nombres de otros líderes y países que supuestamente constituían una clara amenaza contra nuestro sistema. Pues tanto Brezhnev, Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein como Kim Jong-Il han resultado ser una amenaza más para sus propios países que para nosotros. Lo máximo que han conseguido es que se desintegren, que los invadan o que los bloqueen. Aunque el terrorismo extremista de raíz religiosa ha intentado socavar la base de nuestro sistema económico atacando el World Trade Center el 11-S, Madrid el 11-M o Londres el 7-J, lo cierto es que `pese a la grave sacudida, el sistema resistió el golpe.

Tony Blair dice ahora que el enemigo es Irán. Yo no siento ninguna simpatía por el régimen iraní, pero tampoco por Tony Blair. Junto con Bush y Aznar, el trío representó el acto más desvergonzado de altanería política que yo jamás he presenciado, cuando intentaron vendernos la burra de las armas de destrucción masiva para justificar la guerra de Irak, para la cual no tenían la aprobación de las Naciones Unidas. Después de tal mentira, ¿realmente espera que alguien le crea? Este tipo no tiene ninguna credibilidad. Personalmente me siento mucho más amenazado por el FMI, el BCE o las agencias de calificación de deuda y no veo a ningún líder occidental que exija pararles los pies a estos tiburones cuyas armas sí destruyen en masa a una población inocente. El diablo no está en colinas muy lejanas, el diablo duerme entre nosotros.

Mi enhorabuena a Retraplayer por conseguir llevar su barco a buen puerto. Una canción al día durante una semana. Yo no estoy tan exhausto como deben estar ellos, pero he de decir que para mí también ha sido todo un reto. Llegar a casa del trabajo y tener solo unas horas por la tarde para escuchar la canción, leer el artículo, analizar ambos, a veces descifrar la letra y finalmente escribir la entrada en dos idiomas, todo eso sin traicionar el espíritu del proyecto, ha sido bastante estresante. Pero estoy muy contento de haber colaborado y creo que cada uno de los segundos invertidos ha valido la pena. Así que, gracias por vuestra maravillosa música y esperemos al próximo reto. Mientras tanto, ¿no creéis que todos nos merecemos un descanso?

(ESPAÑOL ADELANTE) Retraplayer has used a  piece of news about the collaboration between the British, American and Libyan secret services to illustrate the hypocrisy of our political leaders when shaking hands with dictators just for the benefit of the developed countries. Everybody knows who Gaddafi is, everybody knew what the Talibans were going after, the whole world was aware of the pain that people like Videla, Stroessner, Pinochet and the like were inflicting on their own citizens, but we helped them, armed them and praised them. We did not give a shit about the population living under such brutal regimes. Now they suddenly come up with the clever announcement that Gaddafi was the biggest menace and the useless U.N. allows bombing the country to get rid of their former friend.

Especially hilarious -and pathetic- is the Spanish ex-Prime Minister Jose María Aznar's statement at a lecture in Columbia University regarding Gaddafi, in a very funny English accent, as 'an extravagant friend, but a friend' -and this was only April 2011!

I wonder why the U.N. has not taken such drastic action on Somalia. Maybe too much waste of money in order to just feed a few million starving children for zero oil contracts in return.

Musically speaking, today's song is much more challenging. The band has chosen a sort of funeral-like march for an introduction, which very much sets a poignant undertone throughout the track and then comes an intense guitar line that adds a soft melodic counterpoint and becomes, in my opinion, the highlight of it. Again, the whole work is completed by acute lyrics that say much more than one can even pick up at first listening. Sit back and enjoy!

 

Retraplayer usa hoy una noticia sobre la colaboración entre los servicios secretos británicos, norteamericanos y libios para ilustrar la hipocresía de nuestros líderes políticos cuando estrechan la mano de dictadores por el mero beneficio que tal asociación reporta a los países desarrollados. Todo el mundo sabe quién es Gadafi, qué querían los talibanes y también conocíamos el dolor que gente como Videla, Stroessner o Pinochet, por citar a unos pocos, estaban infligiendo a sus conciudadanos. Pero, aún así, les ayudamos, les armamos y les aplaudimos en muchas ocasiones. Nos importó una mierda lo que los habitantes de esos países estaban sufriendo bajo la régimen de estos tiranos. Ahora, nuestros líderes se hacen los listos por avisarnos de la gran amenaza que representa el líder libio y las inútiles Naciones Unidas dan el visto bueno para que se bombardee el país y así librarnos de semejante bestia humana -que hace nada era nuestro amigo. 

Especialmente hilarantes (y patéticas) son las declaraciones del ex-Presidente del Gobierno español José María Aznar en una conferencia en la Universidad de Columbia, definiendo a Gadafi como "un amigo extravagante, pero un amigo". ¡Y esto lo dijo en abril de este mismo año!

Me pregunto qué está esperando la O.N.U. para permitir acciones la mitad de drásticas en Somalia. Igual es demasiado desembolso... ¡Total, para saciar el hambre de unos cuantos millones de niños y no conseguir ni un solo contrato petrolífero a cambio!

Musicalmente hablando, nos encontramos ante un tema mucho más arriesgado. La banda ha decidido usar una introducción a modo de marcha fúnebre que establece un tono de dramatismo e intensidad durante toda la canción. Luego llega la guitarra y comienza su discurso, más suave y melódico, como contrapunto al pathos general. Esta guitarra es el punto fuerte de la canción, que se ve completada por una letra precisa y aguda que dice mucho más de lo que en una primera escucha se percibe. Hay que disfrutarla.
