(ESPAÑOL ADELANTE) I faced Dolorean's performance at the Tanned Tin festival with the only reference of Beachcomber Blues in my head, a song I had been listening to for more than a year without paying much attention to the rest of the band's discography. Expectations are always hard to meet, and according to the quality I attributed to that tune, mine were quite high. And eventually they were fully met. Americana bands might all sound too familiar, but I really consider Dolorean truly authentic. With little orchestration and a conventional line-up, the re-creation of airy atmospheres succeeds in its attempt to portray a picture of easy-going feelings where the reference to the unfazed world is present throughout the album. The live performance reproduces note by note, beat by beat, the essence of it, and so the audience gets a good shot of calmness to help them get through all the turmoil, the stupidity and the chaos around. Being unfazed is not only, as you might think, an attitude to avoid stress, but also to learn how to live with it, to look it in the eyes and say: 'ok, I'll accept you, only just do not make too much fuss.' Very little can be added to Al James's explanation of Dolorean's new album concept. I just want to point out a key remark: 'Living unfazed is a position of empathy and understanding.' I do believe this must be my motto for the next decade, at least. I hope I can believe it enough.

Me enfrenté a la actuación de Dolorean en el Tanned Tin con la única referencia en mi cabeza de Beachcomber Blues, un tema que llevaba escuchando desde hace más de un año sin haber prestado demasiada atención al resto de discografía de la banda. Las expectativas siempre resultan muy complicadas de colmar y, por la calidad que yo le atribuía a la canción, las mías estaban muy altas. Pero al final se colmaron. Los grupos de americana pueden llegar a sonar un pelín demasiado parecidos, por aquello del sonido tan característico medio folk, medio country del estilo que nos ocupa, pero de verdad creo que Dolorean suenan auténticos. Con muy poca orquestación y una formación bastante convencional, esta banda acierta al recrear unas atmósferas etéreas, algo evanescentes y así dibujan un mapa de sentimientos despreocupados y poco exigentes donde la referencia al mundo unfazed (inmutado, imperturbable, en inglés) se hace patente a lo largo de todo el álbum. Su directo reproduce nota a nota esta cualidad esencial, de manera que el público se ve imbuido en un estado cercano a la ensoñación que le ayuda a literalmente pasar de la confusión, estulticia y caos que nos rodea. No inmutarse no es solo, como se puede llegar a pensar, una actitud para evadirse del estrés, sino también para aprender a convivir con él, a mirarle a los ojos y decirle: "vale, te acepto como amigo, pero no me des mucho la vara". Poco se puede añadir a la explicación que Al James, líder de la banda, hace de este concepto incluido en su nuevo disco, pero voy a resaltar una sentencia que me parece clave: "Living unfazed is a position of empathy and understanding" ("Vivir sin inmutarse es una postura de empatía y comprensión"). Este tiene que ser mi lema para la próxima década, por lo menos. A ver si me lo creo lo suficiente.
