(ENGLISH AHEAD) What You're Missing llega hoy a la entrada número 100. Dado que alguna de estas ha sido doble y hasta triple, han sido más de cien canciones las que han pasado por este blog desde diciembre de 2009. He intentado no caer en la monotonía y ofrecer variedad tanto de temática como de estilos. Y es que ha habido poco de deliberado. Muchas veces ha sido la actualidad o los acontecimientos alrededor de mi propia vida los que han propiciado que tal o cual canción fuera la protagonista de la entrada. De este modo ha habido entradas muy cargadas ideológicamente, donde dejé salir mi más profunda indignación; otras más suaves, donde el punto de partida era casi hasta una nimiedad; otras completamente centradas en la música, crónicas de conciertos, -hasta el punto de incluir entrevistas con los artistas- e incluso me ha servido para dar el último adiós a seres especialmente queridos.

Sabedor de que este eclecticismo no es lo más recomendable en un mundo virtual donde los blogs tienen más éxito cuanto más especializados son, me reitero en la particularidad de este, que es precisamente no apostar en concreto por un determinado perfil musical -así, a bote pronto, por aquí ha pasado algo de música francesa, italiana, de películas, new age, pop, techno, ambient, rock, americana, folk, instrumental... y mucho indie, por supuesto. Quedan muchas músicas que reflejar, muchos países que visitar y muchas sensaciones que sentir. Pero eso será a partir de mañana. Hoy toca disfrutar del momento con una canción que sintetiza en su estribillo mi única y verdadera intención : "sólo quiero estar en tu colección de discos". Solo con que alguno de los seguidores del blog haya conectado con alguno de los más de cien temas y ya esté en su colección, me conformo. Conexión conseguida.

PD1: Para mi desgracia, me acabo de enterar de que esta canción sale en el último videojuego de fútbol FIFA 2011, con lo que tengo que traicionar mi objetivo de no incluir temas que ya son mainstream, pero como yo no juego al FIFA, me hago el sueco.

PD2: De Mark Ronson hablamos otro día, ¿vale? Sólo quedaros con que es el productor del Back To Black de Amy Winehouse. Mientras os dejo este enlace que os deja bien clarito quién es el tipo.

PD3: En todo este tiempo, se ha ido confeccionando un ranking de entradas más visitadas -que podéis comprobar en los gadgets de la barra lateral- por eso quisiera dejaros aquí precisamente el enlace a la entrada menos visitada, porque creo que no se merece tal ninguneo. Ahí van las We Are Golden.

This is the blog's 100th post. As some of these have featured two or even three songs, it makes more than one hundred songs altogether since December 2009. I have tried not to bore people with the same kind of stuff, that's why I have adopted an ecletic approach to it. Many different styles and topics have been dealt with, and they have not been deliberately chosen. Most of the times it was world events going on or others happening around me that set fire to this or that reflection. Some posts showed a deeply ideological stance, others were just based on trivial stuff. Some were strictly focused on music, concert reviews and even interviews with the artists. Moreover, some have become the last farewell to my beloved ones.

Knowing that such eclectic view is not advisable if you want to succeed in the blog scene, since the blogs that really hit the show are specialized in one thing, I want to reaffirm the peculiarity of the one you're reading, which is not having a preference towards a specific music style. You've listened to French music, Italian music, film soundtracks, new age, pop, techno, ambient, rock, americana, folk, instrumental... and a lot of  indie, of course. A lot of styles are left to be dealt with, many countries to visit, and many emotions to feel, yet that will start tomorrow. Now it's time to enjoy the day with a song whose chorus reflects exactly what my aim has been for the past 19 months: "I only want to be in your record collection". If any of you has ever felt touched by any of the songs posted here, I am more than happy with it. Communication succeeded.

PS1: I have just learnt that this song is on FIFA 2011 videogame, which means I have to betray my aim not to post any song that goes previously mainstream. As I am not into videogames, I'll just look the other way.

(ESPAÑOL ADELANTE) Music and performance have always gone hand in hand. If we have reached the point of attending to electronic music concerts, where the closest thing to a performance is the sight of a guy moving his body behind a keyboard under a hectic display of light, there is no doubt that the rest of the music has far more connections with the art of performing.

A clear example of the coincidence of both features is today's band We Are Golden. Not only do we find the breathtaking, powerful voice of Sarah Rudinoff, but we also feel the experience of attending to a complete play when listening to their songs. Sarah comes from the world of musicals in the miracle city of  Seattle, where she became popular performing in Hedwig and The Angry Inch. Her emotional voice gives the compositions the right theatrical turn for the orchestrated stories that Gretta Harley helps to build up on the piano and guitars. The effect caused by all these is similar to the cabaret-like performances by The Dresden Dolls or The Irrepressibles.

In Just Every Fisher's Folly we come across a classical play in three acts, each one of them building a part of the story with words and music that starts with simple and straight-forward declarations, then goes up in crescendo and ends up in a powerful, heartbreaking climax that leaves you on top of an intense summit and then descends abruptly to commence the next act's cycle. Separation, real love, pain, reproach, lies, foolish love again are the compulsory topics in this distressing though beautiful drama that we would never like to live but we definitely wish to listen to on and on. 

La música y la interpretación siempre han ido de la mano. Si hemos llegado al punto de asistir a conciertos de música electrónica donde lo más parecido a una actuación es un tío moviendo el cuerpo detrás de un teclado bajo caprichosos haces de luz, no hay duda de que el resto de música tiene, evidentemente, muchas más conexiones con el arte de la interpretación.

Un buen ejemplo de la coincidencia de estos dos aspectos, interpretación y música, en una sola obra es la banda que hoy presentamos: We Are Golden. No solo encontramos la arrebatadora y potente voz de Sarah Rudinoff, sino que sentimos que, efectivamente, estamos asistiendo a una representación en toda regla con cada canción. Sarah viene de la milagrosa ciudad de Seattle y del mundo de los musicales. Allí se hizo popular gracias a su actuación en Hedwig and The Angry Inch. Su emocionante voz concede a las composiciones  el toque teatral adecuado para las historias orquestadas que Gretta Harley ayuda a construir al piano y a la guitarra. Todo ello causa un efecto de cabaret muy cercano a las propuestas de The Dresden Dolls y The Irrepressibles.

En Just Every Fisher's Folly nos encontramos con un drama clásico en tres actos, en cada uno de los cuales se construye una historia con música y letra que comienza con una simple y directa declaración, toma cuerpo en un intenso crecendo y acaba en un poderoso y apabullante clímax que te deja en la cima para bajar abruptamente hacia el comienzo del ciclo del siguiente acto. La distancia, el amor verdadero, el dolor, el reproche, la mentira, el amor loco (de nuevo) están presenten en la obra, la cual constituye un inquietante pero precioso drama que nunca quisiéramos vivir en nuestras carnes pero desearíamos escuchar sin pausa una y otra vez.
